Inspiration is what you make it.

"People want to work in a place where they feel inspired."

-Ryan Wuerch , founder, Motricity

Next time you walk into your school, office or what have you, ask yourself if this is true of you. If not, what needs to change--the environment, or you?

People at Motricity hate Ryan Wuerch. I wouldn't call his leadership "inspirational."

I can't speak to the content of his character here, but I do like that quote for its application to what I do.

What has Wuerch done to lose the backing of his company?

I like the quote too. But it doesn't apply to Mr Wuerch. I've worked at Motricity for over two years and it is a horrible place to be. Mostly because of Ryan Wuerch.

Regarding Ryan Wuerch here is some insight...

MeanCompaniesSuck Blog

Also, since this post was in regards to schools/education, might find this particular article of interest:

http://www.newsobserver.com/104/story/486958.html

Ryan Wuerch, the 39-year-old CEO of Durham-based Motricity, dropped out of college after a year because he was frustrated that the curriculum was "book-related," rather then stressing real-world applications.

Motricity has prospered under Wuerch's leadership. The company -- whose technology helps people buy and receive games, graphics, ring tones and music on their mobile phones -- has raised $152 million from investors to date, likely the most venture capital ever raised by a North Carolina company. The company has about 400 employees worldwide -- including about 300 in Durham, up from 170 last summer.

Wuerch, the father of three sons, wants his boys to go to college. "I actually tell my sons to do as I say, not as I do," Wuerch said. "I want them to have the discipline."

He is not what I would call a good role model, at least not in reality. Insincerity is not a virtue.

I cannot sign onto the Mean Companies Suck Blog, but as I suddenly find myself and my co-workers working for Ryan, I would like to know what to expect.

I worked for Motricity before Ryan came on board and before his company bought us. (We were Pinpoint at the time)

The culture at Pinpoint was GREAT. I LOVED working there. The people were hard working and we would pull all-nighters willingly just to get the job done, because for one, we knew we were building something amazing and because we wanted to be around each other and share in this common goal.

From the first day Ryan walked through the door, we knew it was going to be hell. He came in, repainted the offices up front. He took over cube space to expand his office. He was having receptionists pick up his dry cleaning, going to his house and watching his kids.

He would have the IT people work on his computers and his buddies personal computers but wouldn't let those same people take an extra 30 minutes for lunch so they could go to the doc or the dentist. He would ream the employees telling them not to misuse company resources but then would do that very thing himself. He NEVER took a taxi. It always had to be a limo. He would never ask for something from someone, but always demand it.

I didn't put up with his crap. I couldn't believe he didn't fire me, but I left anyways because the guy is a loser. He ruined Pinpoint, and he's going to run Motricity in the ground.

@ anonymous - isn't your description of this guy no different than most CEOs? You have to have some degree of self-importance, ego, relentless drive and, well, entitlement to be a CEO in most places no? Have you not read and heard of some of the perks offered CEOs in other companies? Regardless, the bottom line is that if a CEO creates a poor work environment he won't be able to attract the best talent and will ultimately fail.

You did what anyone should do in this situation....leave! I respect the fact that instead of just bitching, you voted with your feet and left. Just remember your own words should you become a CEO one day, and set a better example for your employees

I have known Ryan Wuerch since 1990. At that time he was a very Slick Network Marketing Poster Boy. This is a very insincere and undisciplined person. The reports of Lavish Spending do not surprise me in the least.

Ryan has always been a user, very convincing, I would definitely label him a Sociopath. The fact is, this company, like everything he has done, is without profit.

The Lavish trips are part of his Track Record of projecting an illusion. He may turn a profit from the latest deal. However, it will be his profit and most within his employ and even investors will lose.

Look up Network Marketing Companies such as NSA, Qurom International and NeoGen, as three who were hurt by this flamboyant playboy. You might want to contact his first wife as well.

I have witnessed this "Good Christian" sale sexual favors from his sister to complete a deal.

That should tell you something.

I never miss an opportunity to hate on Ryan. His long trail of destruction is legendary but what is even more disturbing is as he walks away from one fiery wreck, some crazed deep pocket dimwit hands Ryan the keys to another opportunity to drive off a cliff.

So now this guy has started a multi-level marketing company called Solavei...and like lemmings Christians are
following this guy to "start the revolution" or "this is a multi billion dollar company"! He is inticing people with trips to Hawaii.

You know whats funny, is you guys have so much time on your hands that you come onto a website like this and speak negative, and speak Hate towards a man that has a heart and passion not only for God but for people. and Solevei is not only something that will change my life, but lives around the World. and when someone like Ryan Wuerch succeeds and creates something that will take him and millions if not billions of others to a place higher then you ever will go, there is always gonna be haters, because he has passed a place you never succeeded, you gave up, you failed. I know Ryan on a personal level, i have grown up looking up to this man, and i cant even begin to tell you how much my life has changed, and how my mind set has been set for success. Ryan constantly loves me, constantly cares for me, and not just me but others around him. Im sorry that Love is something you lack. But Gods love has truly reflected off of Ryan, and i feel sorry for any of you who have been causing yourselves to be blind to that
